New Royston

New Royston (/nu ˈrɔɪstən/ [Translation Unavailable]) is a subtropical Town located in Guzlÿtthu Hold, Nefan Kingdom, within the Sylvanian Empire.

The name New Royston is derived from the Sylvin language, as New Royston was founded by Kthelêv Trg̈mênm Skelly Grice-Hutchinson Vannoy Brannick Weller, who was culturaly Sylvin.

Climate

New Royston has a yearly average temperature of 13°C (55°F), with its average temperature during the summer being a cool 20°C (68°F) and its average temperature during the winter being a cold 7°C (44°F). New Royston receives an average of 276 cm/y (108 in/y) of precipitation, most of which comes in the form of snow during the pleasantly short winter months. New Royston covers an area of nearly 6 km² (2 mi²), and an average elevation of 2070 m (6791 ft) above sea level.

Overview

New Royston was founded durring the early 12th century in summer of the year 1117, by Kthelêv Trg̈mênm Skelly Grice-Hutchinson Vannoy Brannick Weller. The establishment of New Royston was only bairly constructed. The sheer number of problems with its founding were enough to make several of the backers funding New Royston's construction back out of the project. Kthelêv Trg̈mênm Skelly Grice-Hutchinson Vannoy Brannick Weller pushed on reguardles, and New Royston was finished, but starts off as a terible place to live.

New Royston was built using the conventions of Sylvin durring the early 12th century. Naturaly, all settlmentss have their own look to them, and New Royston is no diffrent. The town's buildings feature delicute timber framework hidden behind layer upon layer of finly ground plaster bleached to an almost glossy white sheen, with green clay tiled roofs and decorative brass-leafed trim. Even the smallest, poorest looking structures appear to be expencive thanks to the extreem elegence of the organic shapes and paterns going into their lofty, spire-y, vagly gothic designs. The more well off folks live in identicle homes, save for even shiner trim and a more whimsical appearance to their structures flowing forms.

New Royston is buildings are arranged arround a network of crampt cobblestone streets which form a diamond shaped grid, where each diamond verries in size given the proximity of the paralell streets forming each section. The ocasional smaller diamond has been used to construct a park, plaza, and other communal structures. The town rests behind a thick wall made from clay bricks. The wall has all of the proper fortifications and is well made. Unfortuantly the nature of clay brick leaves it quite vulnerable to siege equipment, though the thickness of the wall lends it simmilar resistnace to a thinner hardrock wall. The town's millitarily questionable fortifications are visibly old, but also obviously maintained semi-regularly. Its likly the local malishia or garrison are tasked with ocasional mantance of the towns defences.

A look arround New Royston reveals an abundance of schools, libraries, and other academic structures. Locals can be overheard having academic discussions, as well as talking about scholarly subjects in general. It’s quite clear the town places a lot of value on education and being a learned individual.

Civic Infrastructure

New Royston has an Office of Civil Groundskeeping, which works to enforce local ordinances relating to the construction and upkeep up of all plant life, water features, and other natural decorations within New Royston. They are also responsible for the maintenance of these features. Notably, the OCG is not responsible for New Royston's parks.

New Royston has an Office of Civil Vicary, which is responsible for providing a livelyhood for all officialy recognised religious figures within New Royston.

New Royston has a Gravedigger's Guild, which is responsible for collecting the dead and laying them to rest according to all applicable laws and religious customs.

New Royston has a Highwayman's Guild, which is tasked with maintaining the roads and highways leading into town as well as keeping them safe for travelers.

New Royston has a monistary of an order of Civil Monks, who provide divine-related services to the general public and maintain New Royston's public wards, blessings, and other arcane systems.

New Royston possesses a Galvanic Power Grid, which brings galvanic current to most if not all buildings in town, and permits a great many consumer goods to function within the Town. New Royston's grid is powered by mana accumulators.

New Royston possesses an older civil lighting system consisting of street lamps. In spite of the Galvanic Grid, these lights continue to use their old fule sources to provide nighttime illumination to all city streets.

New Royston has a Parks and Recreation Department, which is responsible for the construction, management, and usage rights for all of its parks and parklands. They are not to be confused with the Office of Civil Groundskeeping as they do not hold authority over nor responsibility for New Royston's natural decorations nor waterways.

New Royston has a public schooling program overseen by the Hall of Sages who has the responsibility of ensuring access to affordable high-quality education in all basic classes (Reading, Writing, Mathmatics, General Sciences, General Arcana, and Social Education) is made available to all citizens.

New Royston has a public septic system, which allows its citizens to have indoor bathrooms. The septic system is overseen by the League of Sewerkeepers, who posses the legal authority to enforce all laws relating to the septic system, and are also tasked with its maintenance and upkeep.

Cultural Notes

The locals are in a state of despair and dull apathy. They've lost the things that used to give them pride and hope, with the best among them carrying on out of habitual duty and the worst giving ready hands to shameful deeds and ignoble acts. No one really believes the future can be better, and most seek only to satisfy immediate appetites.

New Royston's bank was built using a different architectural style from the rest of the town. The style used is famous for its stately symmetry, classical elements, and grand appearance. Columns and pillars, such as Corinthian columns, are often seen supporting open structures or porticos. Symmetry is an important feature of this style, with each half of a building mirroring the other. Domed ceilings and windows grace these buildings, with everything placed in a mathematical arrangement.

In New Royston rainbows form quite often above the Town.

The Snake, Viper near New Royston are known to be quite timid.

New Royston's citizens partake in a curious ritual relating to their local kami. It takes place in summer and involves gestures to channel Illusion energies of tier 2 via chanting.

Economy

The following information was obtained via the Imperial Census Bureau as part of the Eyom Economic Outreach Program. It differs from Standard Imperial censuses in that many of Tom's citizens, regardless of culture, work in more than one occupation or hold more than a single job. History

In time immemorial, reportedly some time during the early 2nd century was struck by a great wind storm. A great funnel cloud itself touched down in New Royston, bringing twisting winds which killed 242 people, 386 livestock, and 41 buildings in the disaster.. The disaster is generally remembered as the Howling Winds of Agony.
